About Rob
I'm Rob. I love God, my wife and my four kids. And I like my cat and dog too, most of the time. I run a small web consulting and production business in Jacksonville, Alabama. Mostly it's just me, but that changes from time to time - like when I'm not there...then it’s nobody.
I try hard not to suck - as a Christian, husband, father, friend, designer and developer. That isn't always easy. When most sales and marketing material fails you don't really notice. When a Web site fails you get error messages - nasty or polite, they’re still errors. It's usually obvious when I've goofed something up. (By the way, the same could be said of fathering four children. Screw up once, and maybe no one will notice. Multiply it by four and it is blatantly obvious…) Welcome to my world. But I do love it – it’s like a built-in error check for my life.
I'm not an expert designer or branding guru - but I know someone who is. I'm not a marketing guru - but I can point you in the right direction or to a team of great marketers that can help. I'm not a social media expert - but I value the role that social media plays in sales and marketing and I can help you find your way in the social web. I’m not a search engine optimization specialist - but I know more than most and can help make your site more visible on search engines. I know all the acronyms, but more importantly, I know which ones to use when, where, why and how.
So what is it that I do? I help create the vision of a Web site or Web application and turn that vision into reality. I help businesses succeed on the Web by building sites that work, allowing them to manage content, process orders, create customized presentations, securely share content, and tell their stories. I often work with other creatives or marketing firms to deliver the best possible product to the client. I have a BA from Auburn University in Visual Communications. I'm a good designer. I'm also a pretty darn good developer. I love code. I like making the computer do the things that I want it to do. I think code can (and should) be as attractive as the design of a site or application. I think code should be readable, easy to understand, simple, and above all, it should work.
I typically work on projects with a $2,000 - $6,000 budget and less than a two month timeframe. There are of course exceptions. I prefer to build relationships rather than doing one-time jobs. Most of my clients hire me again. My wife says that one day I’ll have a million dollar idea and we can rest easy for the rest of our lives. I hope she’s right.
